PhilSec 2023, a watershed moment in Philippines’ cybersecurity history

Manila, 17th July 2023: The third annual edition of PhilSec undoubtedly surpassed all expectations and became the voice of Philippines’ cybersecurity industry. Setting an enticing precedent for larger future participation, the event took place on 4 – 5 July at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, followed by a glamorous evening on 6 July for PhilSec Awards 2023.

The inauguration itself was done by the biggest names from the industry, namely John Henry D. Naga (Commissioner and Chairman, National Privacy Commission), Mary Rose E. Magsaysay MPA. C|CISO. C|EH (Deputy Executive Director, Cybercrime Investigation And Coordination Center) and Drexx Laggui (Highly Technical Consultant, Cybercrime Investigation And Coordination Center).

While expressing her fascination for the event in a very precise manner, Mary Rose E. Magsaysay MPA. C|CISO. C|EH (Deputy Executive Director, Cybercrime Investigation And Coordination Center) stated,

“PhilSec is the only private endeavour I join every year.”

With continuous support and guidance from National Privacy Commission (NPC), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC), CyberSecurity Philippines CERT®, Women in Security Alliance Philippines (WiSAP) and National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP), the event made headlines months before it was scheduled to go live.

“On behalf of National Privacy Commission, it’s an honour to be at PhilSec 2023 with data privacy and cyber security champions from across the country to share the same vision and strengthening the Philippines’ National Cyber Security Fabric while upholding the rights to data privacy”,

said John Henry D. Naga (Privacy Commissioner and Chairman, National Privacy Commission) when asked to share his views on the event.

The publicity was so intense and the platform so glamorized that it drove 600+ cybersecurity experts including the country’s biggest stakeholders and the top C-suite profiles to take part in the event. The attendees had a great learning experience as the agenda covered some of the hottest, most next-gen topics from the industry like ‘The Power of Consolidation and AI-Enabled Platforms’, ‘The Power of PAM’, ‘Predicting Ransomware Risk in Supply Chain’, ‘Cloud Security Framework’, ‘Building Zero Trust Security plan’, ‘Digital Forensics’ and many others.

Needless to mention, these topics were elucidated by none other than the most influential thought leaders from the industry including but not limited to Sanket Bhasin (Technology Strategist – CTO, CrowdStrike); LCOL Francel Margareth (Battalion Commander Philippine Army, Armed Forces Of The Philippines); Joseph Pacamarra (CEO, Cyber Security Philippines – CERT); Brijesh Mishraa (Sales Head – ASIA, Senhasegura); and Maricris Salud (Deputy Director, Cybersecurity Supervision and Oversight Group – Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas).

Witnessing the massive volume of delegates at PhilSec 2023, LCOL Francel Margareth (Battalion Commander Philippine Army, Armed Forces Of The Philippines) commented,

“High turnout for this year’s PhilSec gives us the sense that this is an event really worth getting into”.

Despite being an ideal event for cybersecurity, certified by the heavy involvement of renowned stakeholders, the platform made a unique identity for itself through other entertaining elements through the course of three days. While a scrumptious spread of complimentary 5-star dishes awaited all the participants during lunch on the first two days, the glamourous evening at PhilSec Awards 2023 featured a host of entertaining performances.

Be it the electrifying dance moves from Urban Crew that rose to fame with America’s Got Talent or the hysterical stand-up act by Alex Calleja, the platform made room for everything. The awards evening had such a glitzy appeal that participants couldn’t contain themselves from taking pictures at the red carpet while being exposed to the paparazzi lights. Moreover, the presence of champagne ladies had the entire crowd mesmerized that got even better with the fine range of cocktails and gala dinner.

The extensive line-up of exhibiting companies at the platform gave a peek into the platform’s high demand from the private sector. The line-up included Recorded Future, CrowdStrike, Riskrecon, BeyondTrust, Fortanix, Synology, Senhasegura and many others.
